I have good news and bad news. The good news is I have found a way to make my website possible for free. The bad news is I am afraid less people will join because of the way I am going to make my website possible. I know I mentioned my idea in my last blog, but it seemed to me I made it pretty difficult to understand. I am going to start from scratch. Webs is completely out of the picture for a few reasons: it makes the process of joining rather difficult and annoying, Webs constantly has complete shut downs and it does not make it a very easy process to upload photos.
What I have decided to do is use a website I mentioned in one of my previous blogs called, Wix. This will be the initial website, where I will post updates and those pictures I find interesting along with there blogs on a monthly bases, like a "Pictures & Blogs of the Month" kind of thing. It isn't necessarily a contest, but more of a way to give some people the spotlight for a bit. I am trying to make this entire change as easy as possible. My NEW plan is to have a page on the site with two links. One of them will be to Flickr and the other to Blogger.
I will place the links that direct those who join directly to the login page so they don't have to deal with the issue of searching for it. With those two websites I will make "STICTURE" possible. Everyone who joins will be able to view my websites and updates without having to log in, and then have Flickr as the space to store their photographs and blogger to post their blogs. The good thing about having blogger is the ability to embed pictures and video. This will make it easier for the users to simply have the photograph right there with the blog it belongs to. With Flickr I am looking into creating a group so everyone can see one another's photos and such without having to search others every time. I will soon post the link to my new site once I get a little further along with it.
I hope this helps clear things up. Thanks for all the support from everyone who has been helping me in the process!
This is a lot to process but I did want to comment on Wix. It's a site more to glorify a business as you put "spotlight" and it takes time to update each time. Why not just stick to Flickr? You're able to tile photos, write a description about the photo, create galleries and sets. I just think it's much more convenient for you and anyone who wants to share their photography even if it's not for these contests you want to hold.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you lore it is a lot of updating, but because I have worked with Wix in previous years I have found some shortcuts here and there to make updates a lot easier. The only problem is I just want to have a set official website. A place for me to also give background on the site and also in a way show off my photography. You know? I want to do this Wix in a way as the "selfish" part of this project. Do you still think it's too much? Do you think it won't be as attractive to those potential members?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lorena that you want to keep this as simple as possible -- or to seem simple to your members.
ReplyDeleteAre you leaning toward just creating a photoblog for yourself? To document the year? The Last Quarter of your senior year?
